Culture of Semen
Infection with Mycoplasma has been suggested as a
possible cause of infertility in men. Physicians may obtain
cultures for this infectious agent if no other cause for
infertility can be determined.
Mycoplasma infection may be associated with decreased sperm
motility, the production of antisperm antibodies and abnormal ovum
penetration. Controlled clinical studies are required to
specifically determine any link between Mycoplasma infection and
infertility in males.
Mycoplasma can be treated with antibiotic therapy.
