Irregular Ovulation


Irregularities in the menstrual cycle are an important indicator of possible ovulatory dysfunction and the following table describes some of the irregularities that may occur.

Primary amenorrhoeaAbsence of initial menses
Secondary amenorrhoeaAbsence after initial menses has been established
CryptomenorrhoeaMenses occurs, but outlet obstruction prevents discharge from the body
OligomenorrhoeaMenses occurring at two to five month intervals
PolymenorrhoeaTwo or more bleeding episodes in a 26-day interval
HypomenorrhoeaReduction in the number of days of flow or the amount of menstrual flow
HypermenorrhoeaExcessive flow or increase in number of days of flow
