Luteinizing Hormone (LH)
Ovulation predictor kits
These are simple and inexpensive detection kits that measure
Luteinizing Hormone (LH) in the urine (see the Understanding
Fertility section for more detail on LH and other hormonal
factors). You use them to identify the LH surge that occurs shortly
before ovulation. The LH surge can also be detected via daily blood
testing, although this method is significantly more expensive and
much less convenient.
Although home urinary LH tests are quite
accurate, a rise in LH does not necessarily mean that ovulation has
taken place. It's also very important that you read and follow the
instructions very carefully.
You can purchase detection kits at your
local pharmacy.
Another way of measuring if you are
ovulating is to measure basal body temperature.
